About

Maialen Somaglia is a lawyer, Master in Criminology from Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL) and PhD student in Social Studies at the same university. Her master's thesis proposed a case study of a crime and violence prevention program implemented in the city of Santa Fe; research that she was able to carry out thanks to a CONICET doctoral scholarship. Her research has been linked to various topics in the field of the sociology of punishment and the penal system, including: responses of the penal system to minors and young people, studies on total confinement spaces for minors, reforms to the penal system at the local level, and crime and violence prevention interventions that articulate social policy with criminal policy. She has been coordinator of the University Education in Prisons Program of the Crime and Society Program of the UNL and participated in several university extension initiatives within the framework of this proposal, mainly in the Coronda Prison Unit, in Santa Fe. In addition, she actively participated in human rights social organizations, mainly associated with the prevention and reporting of cases of institutional violence. She currently serves as RA of the PTP based in Argentina.
